Baptism
The door to the life of grace, and the first of the sacraments.
Baptism frees us from sin, makes us children of God and members of the Church. It is the first sacrament, and the door through which the others are received.
Parents asking for the baptism of a child undertake to bring that child up in the faith. For that reason the parish asks for a short preparation before the day, and for at least one godparent who is a practising Catholic, confirmed, and free to take on the duty.
Adults seeking baptism are received through a longer preparation, the catechumenate, and are ordinarily baptised at the Easter Vigil.
Arranging it
Speak to the Parish Priest or the Curate at the Parish Office, or to the catechist of your Small Christian Community. Bring the child’s birth certificate where there is one, and the names of the intended godparents.
